i manage all files and metadata outside of jellyfin/kodi using mediaelch… it scrapes, renames and sets up all the local metadata files for ingestion perfectly into both my media services.

i dont get this… im technically still usin emby, but user management is beyond simple and requirs no upkeep. no one has asked me to reset their passwords and ive got a few dozen people usin my instance.

many LLMs are moving to a locally processed version requiring far less memory usage/processor requirements than the bigger versions… thats not going to just evaporate. lots of people dont trust cloud compute.

i dont know of a single person, technical or non-technical that thought the metaverse would ever account for anything whatsoever. it was always a non-starter. a dead end. it is ridiculous just on premise, let alone any serious valuation.

i personally know dozens of people self hosting email. tens of thousands of businesses have been hosting their own email for decades. i dont think you can take self-hosting away from email by pointing out the billion users are 17% on google (or whatever).

im not disagreeing with you that the big guys have big market share, but email is vast and ubiquitously self hosted.
