I’d argue military force and threatening posture has been a large part of the USA foreign policy and diplomacy for the entire existence of the nation.

I don’t understand how Newsom can’t just order the CA national guard to not follow unlawfully given orders.

I’m not a lawyer but the statute in the Constitution that is written into the executive order as the authorization for it literally says the national guard are under control of the state Governor.

Why can’t Newsom give the guard orders and tell Trump to go fuck himself and see what happens? I guess at that point you’ll have conflicting orders from federal and state but, in theory, the national guard are under command of the state Governor and he’s their highest authority. So they should follow Newsom’s orders.

Like I said IANAL so I’m sure I’m missing something but for fuck sake this is outrageous. We’re rounding people up for not having a paper, they’re not even hardened criminals. If this was hardcore enforcement of actual dangerous people that would be one thing. These are just innocent undocumented migrants trying to live the their lives same as the rest of us.

I know someone said cheerios are cereal, which they are. But we do indeed have chips, or crisps, in our schools.

I guess the NYT no longer has an editor on staff? Who the fuck let that go to print, also who writes something like that into an article - that little paragraph where the NYT claims that “industry experts” said Chinese girls are better at assembling phones reads like cringe AI slop.

I feel like literally one person proofreading that should have been enough for them to go, “maybe don’t print the stupid racist thing about small fingers.”

It’s fine, nothing at all wrong with using just camera vision for autonomous driving. Nothing wrong at all. So a few cars run off roads or don’t stop for pedestrians or drive off a cliff. So freaking what, that’s the price for progress my friend!

A lot of suburban sprawl in the USA doesn’t have good local coffee shops around and Starbucks is the best, or at least reasonably close, option available to get a fancy caffeine fix.

Plus they serve lots of things other than over roasted drip coffee.

I like some of their iced drinks and macchiatos. But I like sweet garbage with too many calories. So my palette isn’t exactly refined. However, that’s a lot of the reason is just lack of options and people genuinely like their sugary sweet drinks and will pay a premium for everybody’s favorite drug caffeine.

Damn, sometimes (because I’m a miscreant) I like to jump into convos or make a comment on them if someone is being really loud about it especially if they’re on the phone with another person.

I did say fuck Nestle, didn’t I? I’m not really trying to advocate for them just from reading that excerpt I would be interested to know how much the company and its reps really knew about the drinking water situation.

Like, I’m very certain they didn’t do anything to help or to combat the problem, just curious if it was something they knew about and how it was handled. I can say for sure they’re evil and should have helped. It’s just I am thinking about who knew what and how much.

I guess it’s more of a thought and less of a defending them because I am not a big nestle fan. Although I do love their chocolate milk mix, reminds me of my childhood so I occasionally buy it because I’m a bad guy.

That’s where I would say the whole, who’s responsible part of the equation gets fucky. To be clear, nestle should have done more to combat this and not have pushed formula feeding where they knew the water could be bad.

I’m not a fan of them by any means and would definitely need to read more and definitely know they’re evil (fuck I mean I’m pretty sure every large enough corp is evil, hell most of the small ones too) but it still gives me pause when it’s presented.

No, Trump imposed additional tariffs without reason on China. The only reason China raised tariffs, and by the way they literally stopped raising them because it’s pointless since they’re already so high, is because Trump started imposing them when he took office.

There already were trade agreements and tariffs in place negotiated with both countries input. These new tariffs were just slapped on by the Trump admin not as a reaction to anything but as a unilateral imposition.

You could also say they’re unilateral because they’re only aimed at China and no other states if you want to look at it that way too.

This is like the difference between normal and right. Like I know a ton of people normally search for answers by putting full questions in. With the advent of LLMs and AI being thrown into everything asking full questions starts to make more sense.

For actual good results using a search engine, for sure what you said is better.

Nah, also you’re never going to lose out on income by making more money.

Like others said, the only possible exception is if you’re getting government assistance and get kicked off programs you’re in because you went past the cut off. So, as an example, let’s say you’re low income and you get vouchers for school. You could make enough money that you’re no longer eligible for that benefit but the amount you make over the cut off is less than what the benefit was.

But, that’s a specific situation. At no time will your taxes increase more than whatever additional income you’re getting. Period.

I’ve tried to explain that too many times now in my life and I’m not even that old. Just a lot of people are bamboozled by propaganda and lies.
